Licences · two ways to pay

Own it outright, or rent it month to month.

The app runs on your machine, so the app is a licence — not a monthly permission slip. Buy it in one payment and it's yours, or rent from $15 a month and stop whenever you like. Ten months of rent costs what buying costs, so renting is for deciding, not for staying. The only other thing we charge monthly for is the part we actually host.

Individual 2 seats covers one editor on a desktop and a laptop. Buy: $149.99 · Rent: $15/month, cancel any time
Founder pricing until 31 December 2026 After that it's $179 · $699 · $2,990. Every founder licence keeps its price and its terms for good, including the rental rate if you're renting.
One payment. The licence is permanent, and every 3.x update comes with it.

What renting isMonth to month · cancel any timeAccess for as long as you pay for it. It doesn't build towards ownership — around ten months costs what buying costs, so rent when you want the short commitment, buy when you know you'll keep it.
When a rental endsExport stays openMaking new clips stops at the end of the paid month, but the app still opens and still exports what you've already rendered — with no deadline on that. Your projects and brand kits are files on your own disk either way.
Switching from renting to buyingFull price, any timeBuy the licence outright whenever you like and the rental stops at the same moment. Months already rented aren't credited against it.
Updates inside the 3 line3.1 → 3.5 · included, no deadlineA licence is tied to the major version you bought it at. Every release inside that line — new clip types, caption styles, the mobile apps — arrives free, however long the line runs.
More than 25 machines? Corporate covers 25 seats off the shelf. Past that — a rollout across sites, procurement and security questions, an invoice that has to look a particular way — we price it with you.

The only thing we charge monthly for

Cutting, transcribing and rendering happen on your hardware, so they cost us nothing and cost you nothing per month. Scheduling, posting and syncing a team's kits run on our servers — that's what a subscription should pay for, and nothing else.

Add-ons & moving up

Grow without buying twice

Bought a licence and outgrown it? You pay the gap to the bigger one, never the full price again. Renting? Change tier and the rate changes with it.

Upgrade a licenceIndividual → Group: $400 · Group → Corporate: $1,941The difference, not the full price. Seats and brand kits carry over.
Seat pack+3 seats · $199 · or $18/moSeats come with the licence rather than one at a time — when a contractor joins, a pack of three adds machines to any tier without moving up.
Corporate blocks+25 seats · $1,990Corporate is a shelf price like the other two — buy it. Blocks of 25 extend it on one invoice, and past a few hundred machines talk to us instead.
When a new major version landsOptional · holder's price4.0 will be a separate licence, offered to existing holders below the full price. Staying on 3.x costs nothing and nothing stops working — you move when the new one is worth it to you.

Cost over time

One editor, three years

Measured against a $15/month cloud plan — the cheap tier, before its minute caps push you up one. Renting costs the same as that plan; buying costs it once.

Cloud tool $15 a month $540 Rent Ariloop $15 a month $540 Buy + Connected $149.99 + $9 a month $474 Buy outright $149.99 once $150 $0 $150 $300 $450

Renting asks $15 to begin instead of $149.99, and costs the same as the cloud plan if you stay — which is why it's for deciding. Buying is the route that stops costing: after ten months it's cheaper than renting, and after three years it's a quarter of either subscription.

Licensing questions

The fine print, in plain words

Licensing only — the full FAQ covers the app, privacy, AI costs and publishing.

How does renting work?

You pay monthly — $15 for Individual, $45 for Group — and stop whenever you like; the licence runs to the end of the month you've paid for. It doesn't turn into ownership: renting is a rental. When it ends the app stops opening, but nothing of yours is held hostage — finished clips sit in your folders, and you can still export the projects you'd already cut. Ten months of rent costs about what buying costs, so if you know you're staying, buy.

Does renting turn into owning?

No, and we'd rather say so here than bury it: renting is access for as long as you pay for it. At the end of a month you don't renew, new clips stop — export of what you've already made stays open. Around ten months of rent costs what buying costs, so buy outright if you know you'll keep it. You can buy at any time and the rental stops the same day; rent already paid isn't credited.

What exactly is a seat?

One machine with Ariloop activated on it. A seat isn't tied to a person — an editor with a desktop and a laptop uses two. Release either from Devices and it's free immediately.

What does the Connected plan cover?

The parts that run on our servers: the scheduler and direct posting, integrations like Buffer, scheduled tasks that fire without your machine, and brand kits and templates synced across seats. It's $7/month alongside a rental, or $9/month — $79/year — if you bought outright, and never required. Let it lapse and only those hosted features stop.

Is syncing to my own storage part of that plan?

No — it's free on every licence. The upload runs from your machine to your bucket or drive with credentials you enter, so it costs us nothing and we never hold a copy.

Which updates does my licence include?

Every release inside the major version you bought. Buy at 3.0 and 3.1 through 3.5 are yours as they ship, free and with no deadline — that's the thumbnail generator, script to video, Mix, video to book, the command line and the mobile apps. A new major version, 4.0, would be a separate licence offered to existing holders below full price; until you take it, your 3.x keeps working exactly as it does today.

Can I move up a tier later?

Yes. If you bought, you pay the difference between the two licences — never the full price twice. If you're renting, the rate just changes to the new tier from the next month. Brand kits, projects and seats carry over either way.

How do teams and organisations pay?

Card or invoice for Group. Corporate is buy-outright and invoiced against a purchase order — procurement prefers one line item to a monthly charge — with the Connected plan quoted per seat if you want it.

Refunds?

14 days on outright purchases, no questions. Rentals can be cancelled any time and simply end at the close of the paid term.

Why is founder pricing cheaper, and what happens when it ends?

Because you're buying from an unknown vendor before the reviews exist, and that deserves a discount. On 1 January 2027 the prices become $179, $699 and $2,990. Anything bought or rented before then keeps its price permanently — including monthly rentals, which stay at the rate you started on.
